SIDIS to SIDAC converter

Introduction
  An electrical company needed to communicate two different electrical engineering software.
Company Name
  ASINELSA S.A. Argentinean consulting firm specialized in engineering for electrical distribution companies with more than 20 clients in Latin America.
Business Need
  The system must migrate the information from an ArcView Based GIS (SIDIS) to the SIDAC database whit these start up problems:
1. Very different database structures and relations.
2. Very large amount of data.
3. Heterogeneous and closed data sources. (Oracle and ArcInfo file)
Solution
 
  • It was analyzed, designed in UML the SIDIS object model. It was programmed in Visual Basic.
  • Due to the large amount of data there were find several bottle necks. The system was tuned to minimize the migration time.
  • The ArcInfo and Oracle information was exported to text files by the energy company in order to simplify the system. The text files was linked into an Microsoft Access database. The system uses ADO access both the SIDAC and SIDIS text files.
  • Benefits
      Fluent communication between the two systems.
    Good enough performance.
